Are Spitting and Biting Effective Self-Defense Moves?

Both are unusual self-defense moves

Are spitting and biting effective self-defense moves? That’s a great question that we’re going to answer in this article.

First off, spitting at someone might not be an effective self-defense move. The combination of adrenaline and fear makes sure that your mouth goes dry whenever you’re involved in a situation that could potentially go haywire pretty quickly.

Having said that, you might be able to pull it off if you’re still arguing with the potential attacker. In case you want to try it, we’d suggest using spitting as a distraction – spit at your opponent in the eyes to distract him for a second or two and then capitalize on the opportunity to finish the threat.

Keep in mind that spitting at someone isn’t always going to work. In fact, it might end up making the situation worse in some scenarios. A person who would otherwise have let you go with a warning would fight you with all the power he could muster once he gets your saliva on his face.

So, assess the gravity of the situation before spitting at someone.

Learn more on the effectiveness of spitting and biting in a fight

As far as biting is concerned, it can come in handy in a street fight.

Especially if the attacker has held you in an elbow choke. In such a situation, biting is the only option you’ve got to free yourself of the chokehold.

You have to be careful, though, when it comes to biting, because you can’t know for sure what disease the attacker might have. That’s why we think growling is much better. By growling, you send the attacker the message to back off, or else you’ll take a mouthful off his skin.

This might convince the attacker to let go of you. And you won’t have to spend the next many days worrying about whether you’re now carrying an unknown disease.
