Self Defense from a Staircase

Always Keep in Mind that you can be Attacked Anywhere

One thing you never have control over in a fight is where the attack will take place. In this particular article, we’ll look into self defense from a staircase.

That said, remember that you can be faced with an attacker anywhere anytime. As we’ve always mentioned, it’s crucial that you’re always aware and alert of your surroundings.

The trickiest place and perhaps even the oddest place an attack can take place is in a staircase. It’s no surprise that being attacked in an environment as unstable as a staircase which could have drastic results if you were to fall down the stairs is a scary situation.

However, the reality is that you might at one point find yourself in a position where you are being attacked in a staircase and you’ll have to defend yourself. While it’s not the ideal situation to be in, it’s important to be ready to defend yourself.

Being able to fight back in this position is crucial, since the outcome can be drastic. Being attack in a staircase can happen in two different scenarios.

Two Different Scenarios of Self Defense in a Staircase

The first scenario, which is also the ideal scenario, is if you are on the top step with your attacker below you. This gives you a better vantage point. However, don’t think that just because you’re in a better situation you can let your guard down.

You need to be alert at all times.

From the top of the stairs, grab the staircase handles with both arms and make sure you have a solid grip on them. Then, you can just kick your opponent with your foot. This will hopefully cause him to lose balance and fall down.

The main goal is to neutralize the threat giving you enough time to get away to a safe place where you can call for help. That being said, you want to ensure that when you kick your opponent, you put your whole weight behind it to maximize the impact.

The second scenario in this situation is that you’re at the bottom of the stairs with your opponent on the top stairs. This can be dangerous as it puts you in a vulnerable state where your attacker has a good chance of kicking you, making you fall down the stairs.

One of the crucial things you want to remember in this scenario is that you do not want to turn your back on your opponent at any time. Turning your back on your opponent makes it easier for him to grab you from behind and trapping you.

While this scenario is a tricky one, the last thing you want to do is panic. You can still fight back by striking him and pushing him backwards.

By pushing your arm straight in front of you, you’ll be able to block his strikes and have a better reach of striking him. The instant that you’ve been able to make him lose focus and have the upper hand, walk away as quickly as you can.

Always be ready to fight back and defend yourself at all means. You can practice this scenario with your self defense training partner.

Practicing regularly will make you a person not to mess with!
