The do’s and don’ts of Knife Defense
In this article, we’ll look at how to survive an ice pick grip attack. This type of knife attack is essentially a close ranged downward stabbing motion that is quick and difficult to avoid without training.
The assailant would want to get up close and personal, possibly grabbing onto a piece of clothing with one hand, while bringing his knife down like a hammer with the other.
You will not be able to defuse this situation. There’s just no time to get into that, when someone has already engaged into such a brutal attack.
It is extremely important to realize that it will be too late to take a passive posture. You’ll have to fight back from the position you are in at the moment of the ice pick grip knife attack.
The assailant has already decided that he wants to kill you. Your only option is to try to stop him.
Recognizing this as a potential threat beforehand is crucial. You will not have a lot of time to think about what to do before your attacker lands the first stab.
This means, if you see your potential attacker taking an aggressive posture, and you are able to spot a knife in his hand, you must know what to do and what not to do.
