How to Prepare for a Hidden Knife Attack

A knife attack is a threat to your life

Any type of knife attack can be a matter of life and death. This article will give you a breakdown on how to prepare for a hidden knife attack.

The key is to be aware. You never know what an opponent may have hidden up his sleeve, or in his belt, and if you don’t stay alert and aware you may find out too late.

Be sure to watch our video on how to deal with a hidden knife attack.

Awareness is key

First of all, you need to be able to observe the attacker’s hands and his body language at all times. If one of his hands is concealed behind him, you should be wary that he could be pulling out a weapon.

Keep your eyes on his body language, and particularly on his hands. This will tell you everything you need to know.

The more aware you are of your opponent’s movements, the sooner you can pick up on him pulling out a knife or other weapon.

By staying aware of what the attacker is doing with his body and particularly his hands, you can buy yourself time to either run or attack him.

Split seconds can make the difference between life and death in a knife attack, so remember to stay aware so you can read your attacker’s body language at all times.

Fight or Flight

Once you know for certain your attacker is pulling out a knife, you have two (or three) options: Fight or Flight. Just make sure you don’t freeze in fear.

So, the first is to run. Knife fights are incredibly dangerous, and can easily lead to death or serious injury. In scenarios like these, running is a good choice, if you can.

The second option is to fight. The best way to do this is to stop your attacker from ever pulling out his knife completely.

If you see him reaching for a knife, the best attack you can do is to grab his hand and trap the knife – jam it back into where he had it concealed, and don’t let him take it out.

How to train for a hidden knife attack

The only way to properly train for a hidden knife attack is through scenario training. An attacker could draw a knife at any time from almost anywhere on his body, so it’s important to practice different scenarios so you can get used to the different possibilities in a fight.
