How to do a Proper Headbutt for Self Defense

The Headbutt: A powerful self defense tool

There are many self defense techniques that you can use in a fight. While some are easier to use and more common, there are some techniques that should only be used in extreme situations. The headbutt would fall under that category. So, let’s look at how to do a proper headbutt for self defense.

Known as being one of the most disturbing strikes in self defense, the headbutt, if performed correctly, can catch an opponent off guard by throwing them on the floor within seconds.

The outcome? It can knock out a person with one single strike.

The most important thing to remember when doing a headbutt is that if you don’t do it properly, you can seriously injure yourself.

Therefore, if ever you do decide to do a headbutt, make sure you are confident enough that you will be able to do it perfectly. Otherwise, it’s best to stick to other self defense techniques that are safer.

When performing a headbutt, there are many different approaches you can take. One of the most common tactics is grabbing your opponent by the back of his neck and launch it from there.

If you decide to take this approach, be extremely mindful because as soon as you grab your attacker, he will most likely already know what your intentions are and attempt to strike you. If this happens, it can mess up your headbutt and have you landing on top of his head causing you significant injuries.

The headbutt strike can be a powerful element of surprise

When doing a headbutt for self defense, you want to ensure that you will land in the facial area of your opponent. This will not only be more effective, but it will also avoid you from getting injured. The best way to do a headbutt is to catch your opponent off guard.

Surprise is the best element and catching your attacker off guard when he least expects it is the best time to do a headbutt.

You want to use the force of your hips and put your weight behind it. It will be effective and get the desired result of knocking him out, giving you the perfect opportunity to get away.

That said, a well placed headbutt can also help you finish a fight against a taller attacker.

Make sure to perform a headbutt only in extreme situations and if the opportunity presents itself. While it is extremely effective, you need to be confident in your technique as it can have critical results if performed incorrectly.
