How to Defend Yourself if a Big Guy Wants to Fight You

Self-defense against a larger attacker

Chances are, it’s going to be difficult to defend yourself against a big guy who wants to fight you. They are bigger, taller and stronger then you. Naturally speaking, odds are not in your favor.

However, with the right self-defense techniques, you might just be able to defend yourself. But you need to act fast.

That’s why you should always be the first one to strike if you feel your life is in danger.

Don’t forget, if your opponent is bigger than you, then there’s a good chance that they are also stronger than you. So, the last thing you want is to have them strike first.

Move around, try to de-escalate the situation, and ready to fight

That said, one of the first thing you want to do is focus on your footwork skills for self-defense.

Don’t stay still.

Move around making it that much more difficult for your attacker to come at you. Once he is in your personal space and you feel in danger, it’s important to strike first. Make sure you strike hard and fast getting the desired impact.

You want to try to catch him off guard as much as possible.

Destabilize your attacker and strike hard

For example, you can start off with giving him a low kick, that way you are taking his attention away from hitting him in the upper body with an elbow strike or an open palm strike.

You want to make sure that your strikes are hard enough to give a strong impact which can then give you the advantage of escaping the situation safely.
