How to Defend Yourself Against a Taller Attacker – Street Scenario

Self-defense techniques against a taller attacker

Facing a taller attacker in the street is not something you want to come across. Since they are much taller then you, they have more range which makes it much more difficult for you to defend yourself.

However, there are some self defense techniques you can use that can definitely help you in these situations.

First off, positioning and having solid footwork skills is essential for defending yourself against a taller opponents.

A powerful strike – the headbutt

The most important thing to remember if ever you’re in a situation where you need to defend yourself against a taller attacker is the headbutt.

What’s great about this technique is that you don’t even have to really position yourself. Since your attacker is much taller than you, you’re already in a position to be able to headbutt them and get the desired impact.

A great thing about the headbutt is that you can use the element of surprise. If you don’t look at your attacker and avoid all eye contact, he will think that you’re trying to find a way to get away from him.

He won’t expect you to strike him.

That will be the last thing on his mind. Therefore, by looking away and then going for the headbutt, you will create that element of surprise which will put you at an advantage.

You can see an example here:

Once you headbutt your attacker, you can even create a bigger impact by hitting around his facial area to try and escape him.

That said, the main thing to remember is that you want to defend yourself in a way that will give the strongest impact, so you can escape the situation with minimal injury.
