How to Avoid Blinking During a Self Defense Encounter

Important self defense tips when you’re fighting someone

Danger could strike in the blink of an eye, so you need to keep both eyes focused on your attacker to protect yourself. With that said, let’s see how to avoid blinking during a self defense encounter.

Firstly, amateur fighters tend to look away and close their eyes when they’re about to receive a punch.

This habit displays a severe lack of experience with physical conflict. And, unfortunately this behavior will not be to your advantage in a fight.

Ironically, our body’s natural survival instinct is to flinch when we are about to take a hit so we can brace for impact.

This is actually really dangerous when you’re facing someone who knows his way around a fight.

The experienced assailant’s eyes are focused on his target, while the inexperienced fighter blindly takes the hit.

You want to be able to see what your opponent has in store for you

This way you know the best way to maneuver yourself so you can defend from a blow, and counter with a blow of your own.

Blinking constantly and looking away signifies you’re in a passive position, and you will be dominated by your aggressor.

In the following video, we teach you how to deal with the natural urge to blink and shy away from your opponent’s punches. You can use this info to turn the tables and take control of the fight.

Now you understand the dangerous position you are in when you close your eyes in front of an attacker. You can now take what you have learned and apply it to your overall self defense training regiment.
