Self defense tips against larger attackers
Chances are in many situations; your attacker will be bigger than you. And, when a big guy throws a punch at you, it can be brutal. That said, let’s look at blocking a punch from a bigger attacker.
With your attacker being taller than you, his punches will have that much more range and power. Therefore, you need to be able to use all your strength in blocking the punch with your arms.
So, you need to be smart about how you will defend yourself against a bigger attacker. Blocking his strikes should be one way to defend yourself.
One of the things you want to avoid is doing a 90◦ angle with your arm. Since your attacker is bigger and stronger, he’ll easily be able to intercept it.
See a video demonstration on how to block a punch from a bigger attacker:
Block the correct way and strike back
So, your best bet is to extend your arm in almost a straight line (with a slight angle in your elbow). Once you’ve done that, go around your attacker and trap him with your chest to his back.
If you’ve managed to trap your opponent in this position, then you can use it to your advantage by striking him.
In addition, the bicep pop which requires you to grab the back of his neck and hitting him with your bicep is an effective strike.
Certainly, the bicep pop is a top self defense strike and it can be done as you’re blocking an incoming punch from a big guy. This is the perfect occasion, since your attacker will not see it coming and you’ll create an element of surprise.
Watch the Code Red Defense instructional video to learn how you can defeat a much bigger attacker.
As seen in the video, make sure to put enough strength behind your strikes to get the desired impact.
